Travel on Thursday 25th July

Chiltern Railways are expecting to run a near to normal service on Thursday, although passengers are recommended to check on the Chiltern Railways website for further up-to-date information.

Speed restrictions will be in place tomorrow on certain parts of the route, as a result of the forecast high temperatures.  Therefore, journeys may take slightly longer than planned.

Services towards London will not be stopping at Little Kimble or Monks Risborough between 1200 and 2000, starting with the 11:29 Aylesbury to London Marylebone. Passengers for these stations should use the bus replacement service running to Princes Risborough. Services from London Marylebone to Little Kimble and Monks Risborough will continue as normal.

It is expected that temperatures will peak at 38°C in London and the south east of England resulting in speed restrictions and minor delays from noon until the evening.

Rail track temperatures can often be up to 20 degrees higher than air temperature and because rails are made from steel, they expand when it gets hotter and can sometimes buckle. Implementing speed restrictions helps reduce the temperature of the track and prevent buckling from occurring.

To assist customers travelling, Chiltern Railways advises the following:

  • Check your journey at www.chilternrailways.co.uk or download the Chiltern Railways App for the latest information before travelling, as trains will be subject to minor delays
  • Carry water with you and stay hydrated at all times
  • Don't board a train if you feel unwell
  • If you do feel unwell onboard, alight at the next staffed station and seek assistance from staff or 24-hour help points.
