New railcard launched for Veterans

Veterans travelling with Chiltern Railways can now benefit from discounted train fares thanks to the new Veterans Railcard.

The card, which can be purchased now, provides up to a third off all peak and off-peak fares as well as discounted travel for a named person and up to four dependants when travelling with the Railcard owner. It is currently retailing at £21 for one year, although a three-year card option is available with an introductory price of £61 until March 2021.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps presented Captain Sir Tom Moore with the very first Veterans Railcard last month and the Rail Delivery Group estimates that 830,000 people will be eligible for the railcard.

Eleni Jordan, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director for Chiltern Railways said, “We owe all of our veterans a great debt for everything they’ve done for this country and we’re delighted that those travelling on our route will now have access to reduced train fares. I hope it gives eligible customers the opportunity to meet up with friends and family and travel around the UK by rail more easily, when they are able to do so.”

Customers can purchase the railcard via https://www.veterans-railcard.co.uk/. Discounts will be applied to tickets purchased through the Chiltern website and app as well as at ticket offices.
