Customers urged to check before they travel during midweek closure between Princes Risborough and Aylesbury

Customers travelling between Princes Risborough and Aylesbury are being urged to plan ahead and check before they travel, as essential engineering work will close the railway during the daytime on selected weekdays this August. The work supports the wider programme of infrastructure upgrades needed for High Speed Two (HS2).

Between Monday 4 and Friday 8 August and again from Monday 11 to Thursday 14 August, the line between Princes Risborough and Aylesbury will be closed each day between 08:30 and 15:30, while engineers carry out essential infrastructure work.

To keep customers moving, Chiltern Railways will operate a rail replacement bus service during the closure, calling at:

  • Princes Risborough – Little Kimble – Aylesbury
  • Princes Risborough – Monks Risborough

Train services will continue to run outside the closure hours, and passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly during the affected daytime periods.

The engineering work is part of planned upgrades designed to keep the railway safe and reliable for the future.

Patrick Cawley, director for ‘On Network Works’ for Network Rail and HS2, said:

“The essential engineering work is part of the wider HS2 programme and ongoing investment to maintain a safe and reliable railway for passengers. We’ve worked closely with Chiltern Railways to schedule the closures during the quieter summer period and to ensure clear information and alternative travel options are in place for anyone who needs to travel during the affected hours.”

Michael Stewart, Commercial & Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said:

“We would like to thank customers for their patience as these crucial works will help ensure the long-term safety and durability of the railway as part of ongoing upgrades in the area. The first two weeks of August have been chosen for these works to minimise disruption during a traditionally quieter time for rail travel. Please check your journeys ahead of travelling in the affected areas as rail replacement buses will be in operation.”
