Chiltern Railways lays on new congestion-busting train for Buckinghamshire commuters

Starting from 9th November Chiltern Railways will be running an additional morning service from High Wycombe into London every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to provide more peak time seats. The new service will run non-stop, departing High Wycombe at 0724 and arriving into London at 0800.

This service is specifically targeted to relieve pressure on one of Chiltern’s busiest trains, the 0643 departure from Oxford that calls at High Wycombe at 0730. Over the last few weeks this train has been becoming increasingly busy, especially after calling at High Wycombe. The new 0724 service running non-stop to London is a targeted intervention to add more capacity where it is most needed, and so relieve pressure during the critical morning peak.

Eleni Jordan, Commercial & Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said “Chiltern Railways will continue to intervene where we are able to do so to provide the best possible experience for customers returning to the railway. Our rigorous data collection and monitoring system has flagged the 0643 as a really crowded train, and I’m delighted that we’re able to add a new train to boost capacity during the morning peak”.

This special train will run until December, when a more substantial timetable change will provide a larger boost to peak-time capacity across the Chiltern Railways network and provide even more seats for returning customers.
