Chiltern Railways Joins Rail Safe Friendly Programme at Gold Level

Chiltern Railways has proudly joined the Rail Safe Friendly programme at Gold level, demonstrating its commitment to educating young people about railway safety and helping to prevent incidents of trespass and unsafe behaviour across the rail network.

The Rail Safe Friendly programme enables schools and the rail industry to work together towards a shared goal: equipping children and young people with the knowledge they need to stay safe around railways. Through free, engaging educational resources and direct collaboration with industry partners, the programme helps embed life-saving safety messages into schools and communities nationwide.

By joining the programme at Gold level, Chiltern Railways is supporting schools across its network to access vital rail safety education while encouraging long-term engagement with the initiative. Gold-level membership reflects a strong commitment to promoting rail safety awareness and supporting schools in achieving accreditation through active participation in the programme.

As part of its Gold-level partnership, Chiltern Railways will sponsor 150 schools, helping them gain access to the Rail Safe Friendly programme and its educational safety resources. Through its involvement in Rail Safe Friendly, Chiltern Railways is also creating long-term social value by supporting safer communities, empowering young people with life-saving education, and strengthening engagement between the railway industry, schools, and local communities across its network.

Rail Safe Friendly, delivered by Learn Live, continues to grow across the UK rail industry, helping schools access curriculum-linked rail safety content through live and on-demand broadcasts. Schools can work towards Bronze, Silver, or Gold accreditation by engaging with the content and championing rail safety within their communities.

Craig Kerr, Interim Head of HSSE at Chiltern Railways, said:

“We are proud to join the Rail Safe Friendly programme at Gold level and support schools across our network in delivering important rail safety education to young people. Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Chiltern Railways, and this partnership will help more children understand how to stay safe around the railway.

“By sponsoring 150 schools through the programme, we are investing in safer communities and helping to ensure life-saving safety messages reach young people, parents and teachers across the regions we serve.”

Stuart Heaton, Managing Director of Learn Live and Rail Safe Friendly, said:

“We are pleased to welcome Chiltern Railways as a Gold-level supporter of the Rail Safe Friendly programme.

"Their commitment demonstrates the proactive role the rail industry is taking to improve safety education for young people across the country. By working together with rail partners and schools, we can continue delivering impactful, life-saving messages directly into classrooms and communities.”
