165 Train Chiltern

Chiltern Railways’ customers reminded of upcoming Metropolitan Line closure this month

Customers travelling with Chiltern Railways are being reminded of an upcoming closure affecting the operator’s services via the Metropolitan Line this month.

As a result of London Underground signalling upgrade works, no Chiltern Railways’ services will operate between London Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham between Thursday 19 and Sunday 22 February inclusive.

Rail replacement buses will operate across the four days as follows, connecting with trains to and from London Marylebone at Beaconsfield:

  • Beaconsfield - Amersham - Great Missenden - Wendover - Stoke Mandeville - Aylesbury - Aylesbury Vale Parkway

In addition, Transport for London will operate rail replacement buses between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham, with stops at Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and Chalfont & Latimer amongst other TfL stations. However, roadworks in the Chorleywood and Rickmansworth area will significantly increase journey times and longer distance bus journeys will require a change at Rickmansworth.

Customers travelling on Chiltern Railways rail replacement buses along the closed section of line are encouraged to buy paper tickets to ensure that they pay the correct fare for their journeys. This is due to time limits on journeys which could be breached as a result of the longer journeys on rail replacement buses.

Customers travelling directly from Aylesbury to London Marylebone are advised to travel via Princes Risborough.

Michael Stewart, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said:

“I recognise that this closure will significantly inconvenience our customers travelling in the area and I would like to thank them for their patience as the signalling works are carried out. The work is crucial to ensure the future reliability of journeys.

“If you are travelling between London Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham, please check your journey ahead of setting out as it will be heavily disrupted for four days from Thursday 19 February.”

More information on the closure can be viewed here.
