Chiltern Railways collaborates with the Feathers Association on community mural at London Marylebone station

A community mural was unveiled at London Marylebone this morning (Wednesday 30 October) as part of a new partnership between Chiltern Railways and the Feathers Association. The new 22-metre community mural was opened by Cllr Robert Rigby, Lord Mayor of Westminster on the Rossmore Road bridge behind Marylebone Station.

Both organisations share deep roots in the Marylebone area, where the Feathers has been based for over 50 years after its founding in 1934 in the heart of Marylebone. Chiltern Railways recently celebrated the 125th anniversary of Marylebone station alongside community partners and local residents.

The artwork, funded by Chiltern’s Community Investment Fund, has been commissioned by world-renowned DJ and graffiti artist Bunny Bread, a former attendee of Feathers in the 70s and 80s. His artwork reflects his deep belief in the value of youth clubs such as Feathers, which provide safe spaces for personal growth, creativity, and friendship.

The 90th Anniversary Bridge Artwork Project symbolises the important role that community spaces play in nurturing young people. It also highlights the urgent need to support such spaces at a time when many youth and community centres have been forced to close.

Cllr Robert Rigby, Lord Mayor of Westminster said:

“I was delighted to open the mural on Rossmore Road bridge on behalf of the local community. The installation celebrates the strong sense of community and rich history in and around London Marylebone. The installation will also improve the look and feel of the bridge for residents and celebrates the fantastic work that the Feathers do to develop and grow young people in the area.”

David Jones, CEO at The Feathers Association said:

“Bunny Bread’s artwork will serve as a powerful tribute to the impact we’ve had on generations of local youth, and we hope it inspires pride and connection within the community. We are incredibly grateful to Chiltern Railways for their generous support in making this vision a reality.”

Vanessa Russell, HR Director at Chiltern Railways said:

“We are proud to be partnering with the amazing Feathers Association, using our Community Investment Fund to deliver opportunities to young people living in the Marylebone area. Whilst Marylebone station has a rich history, we want to inspire the next generation to access education, work and leisure opportunities across the UK rail network.”

Neil Gaskin, programme director for Network Rail Central route, said:

“The railway is at the heart of this community so what better way to help Feathers Association celebrate their 90th anniversary than by allowing our railway bridge to be transformed into an impressive piece of art.

“Not only does it provide a new focal point for the Marylebone area, but we also hope the artwork will inspire people to take pride in the area and continue to do so for years to come”.
