Chiltern Railways: Busier West Midlands services expected on Friday and Saturday
Chiltern Railways’ services in the West Midlands on Friday (10 July) and Saturday (11 July) are expected to be busier due to industrial action affecting West Midlands Railway.
Chiltern Railways will be the only operator running through Birmingham Moor Street on Friday and Saturday. As a result, Birmingham Moor Street, Solihull and Dorridge are expected to be particularly busy and queuing systems will be in place.
In addition, high temperatures are expected for the remainder of the week. Whilst Chiltern Railways plans to operate a normal service, there is a higher chance of disruption to journeys.
Areas of the West Midlands, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire are set to reach temperatures of over 30C for prolonged periods this week. During hot weather there is a heightened risk of delays, cancellations and last-minute alterations.
Michael Stewart, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said:
“With industrial action affecting West Midlands Railway, our services are expected to be busy, particularly in the West Midlands on Friday (10 July) and Saturday (11 July).
“Very high temperatures are also expected across our network which means there is a higher chance of infrastructure failures and disruption to journeys.
“Please check your journeys before travelling and carry a bottle of water with you at all times.”
Vishal Khatri, Network Rail Central route Area Director for Chiltern, said:
“Passengers travelling across the West Midlands and Chiltern route should plan ahead, with services and stations expected to be busier than usual this Friday and Saturday due to reduced services on some routes.
“With high temperatures also forecast, please check before you travel, allow extra time for your journey and carry water with you.”
Meanwhile, Chiltern Railways plans to support My Chemical Romance concerts by running additional services to Wembley Stadium Station on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 July.
