Chiltern Railways announce new partnership with Chiltern Rangers and Buckinghamshire New University to enhance High Wycombe station
A new partnership has been announced by operator Chiltern Railways to make High Wycombe’s station more welcoming and attractive for the community.
As part of the arrangement, students at Buckinghamshire New University and volunteers from Chiltern Rangers will improve the station by creating new artwork and delivering planting schemes.
Buckinghamshire New University will be developing artwork with art and design students for the station overbridge, and Chiltern Rangers have begun work to clear, plant and tend the station gardens and those located adjacent to the Brunel building.
The aim is to link together High Wycombe station with the town’s historic landmarks, whilst preserving its heritage and improving biodiversity in the area.
The partnership, which forms a new group of station adopters at High Wycombe, was funded by Chiltern Railways’ Community Investment Fund (CIF) – a fund to improve local areas by communities. Grants have been awarded to applicants which will deliver social, economic and environmental value to local communities.
Happiness Agbo, Area Station Manager for South Buckinghamshire at Chiltern Railways, said:
“The new partnership is crucial for enhancing High Wycombe station and it is a milestone for new improvements in the area which customers can enjoy.
“I am looking forward to seeing the station reflect the character and diversity of our local communities.”
Professor Nick Braisby, Vice-Chancellor at Buckinghamshire New University (BNU), said:
“We’re delighted to collaborate with Chiltern Railways and Chiltern Rangers to create a welcoming and culturally enriched space for our local community and visitors to the town.
“BNU has a long and proud history in High Wycombe and we’re excited to see our talented students and the excellent team at Chilterns Rangers work together.”
John Shaw, Managing Director at Chiltern Rangers, said:
“We are looking forward to this partnership with Buckinghamshire New University and at least five other community organisations, making the railway gateway to our town better for wildlife and visitors with improved gardens, new art and information on local events and activities.”
