Banbury Station revamp unveiled by Chiltern Railways and Oxfordshire County Council
Upgrades to Banbury Station were unveiled today (Thursday 30 July) as part of a joint investment by operator Chiltern Railways and Oxfordshire County Council.
The ticket office and main entrance area have been overhauled in recent months following renovation at the station.
In addition to extensive painting and cleaning, a ceiling replacement and new seating has been installed for customers.
An event took place at the station today with Chiltern Railways, Oxfordshire County Council, Banbury Town Council, Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire Community Rail Partnership to celebrate the revamp.
The completed works include:
- Stairwells and concourse painting
- New seating
- A deep cleanse of the flooring
- Film installed to the glazing
- A ceiling replacement
- Other internal painting
- Anti-slip surface treatment applied to the ticket hall floor and doormats replaced
Michael Stewart, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said:
“Banbury is a key hub on our network and we are delighted that the station has been significantly upgraded.
“Ensuring our stations are well-kept, maintained and enhanced is crucial for the travel experience which we are always striving to improve for our customers.”
Councillor Gareth Epps, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said:
“I am proud to celebrate the upgrades made to Banbury's vital railway station.
“Commuters can also enjoy safer and more sustainable travel options to and from the station with our Tramway Road improvements.”
Banbury Station has also undergone a series of other significant improvements in recent years, including a community project celebrating people from the town on the overbridge and the opening of a new Costa Coffee.
